50 years of native growth at Mildura Native Nursery

Fifty years ago this month Mildura Native Nursery, then operated by the Victorian State Government was officially opened when A R Mansell a member of Victoria’s Legislative Council planted a Lemon Scented Gum that has grown into a magnificent specimen tree over the 50-year period.

Brothers Tony and Tim Langdon purchased Mildura Native Nursery from the Victorian state government on December 19, 1994 and Tony Langdon is still welcoming customers in 2017.

Native Growth Holdings was started at Mildura, after Tony and Tim Langdon took over Mildura Native Nursery, which is today one of Australia’s foremost supplier of native plants and trees.

NGH supplies farmers, landscapers, home gardeners and government departments with a range of native plants and conservation products and consulting/advice that they require.

In order to make its products and range, which includes tube stock, pot plants, bundled packs and seeds, indoor plants, books, CDs, water savers, as accessible as possible, you can order either online at The Native Shop, or by phoning (03) 5021 4117 and your order will be delivered directly to your door.

Native Growth Holdings takes the approach that the commitment to, and activity within, the spheres of environmentalism and conservation need not simply be a ‘charitable’ activity.

With the right approach, advice and plan, environmentalism and conservation may provide a tangible business benefit to all parties as well as achieving a lifestyle and global sustainability advantage.

Sustainability is about finding a balance between profit, community and the environment.

A business model that seeks a ‘partnership for benefit’ for all of the stakeholders is more likely to succeed in the long run.

NGH take an integrated approach to achieving this ‘partnership of benefit’, working on a variety of fronts to provide a turn-key environmental solution to our customers and markets.

Some of the areas that NGH integrate into its plans include:

Water Conservation

Water is a precious resource.

Many commentators have predicted that wars will be fought over this matter on continents with far more water than in Australia.

Various schemes to distribute it equitably, such as re-routing rivers and extensive irrigation canals, continue to challenge state and federal governments, both locally and overseas.

Everyone needs to do their part and Native Growth Holdings seeks to provide a framework for individuals to participate.

Native Plants

Planting the appropriate water-saving native plants on a property represents one way we can all help to reduce water use and assist the community and the environment.

Environmental Technologies

With sensible policies and simple innovative technologies, Australia’s water supply can be managed to support us all well into the future without having to spend billions of dollars on uncertain schemes or reducing commercial activity.

Integrated Products and Services

NGH products and services are specifically designed to work as stand-alone items or as part of a larger integrated installation.

With extensive usage, this could have a huge impact on the way we use one of our most precious resources – water.

Environmental Plans and Policies

Solutions to these large and seemingly insurmountable problems might seem beyond any one individual’s capacity, but Native Growth Holdings believes that enough individuals acting in concert can change the face of the environmental landscape for the better.

NGH also believes that we all must recognise the need for immediacy in our approach to finding this balance between environmentalism and commerce, and it is to those ends that NGH as a whole pledges itself, its products and its services, as part of the means.

To commemorate the 50 year anniversary why not visit Mildura Native Nursery at Cureton Avenue, Mildura and purchase your very own Lemon Scented Gum (also available online at The Native Shop – www.nativeshop.com.au )

To discuss your needs further, please feel free to contact Tony Langdon.

  1. we should not be advocating everyone plant lemon scented gum as in various parts of Australia they are becoming a very serious weed problem and can be hard to control
promote local trees in the area and around our great country
