In the largest-ever virtual Earth Day event Spring of Sustainability (SoS) 2014 has been launched.
More than 5500 people from 94 countries have so far registered for this unprecedented sustainability education/engagement program.
Available free online and on the phone, SoS features dozens of individual and organizational sustainability luminaries.
The initial “Earth Day Celebration,” a marathon 12-hour telesummit featured music, poetry, indigenous wisdom, and the insights of Bill McKibben, Rob Hopkins, Randy Hayes, Majora Carter, David Korten, John Perkins, Vicki Robin and Sharif Abdullah, among many others.
However, this virtual “Earth Day Celebration” was only the beginning.
In the coming nine weeks, SoS will feature the wisdom and change efforts of select high-profile organizations doing heroic work in various domains of sustainability.
Each week will highlight a different domain of sustainability, such as climate change, food, water, endangered species, and energy.
Every teleseminar is free to access on the phone or web in real time and for 48 hours afterwards.
Representing more than three million members, these presenting organisations include the Sierra Club, Rainforest Action Network, Climate Reality, Endangered Species Coalition, National Wildlife Federation, Pachamama Alliance, Transition Network and Centre for Food Safety.
Through this unprecedented collaboration, these organisations will share their content with the SoS audience in a way that will cross-pollinate and boost the sustainability movement overall.
Participants will learn from the featured organisations how to take high-leverage actions to make a difference in each of the featured issue areas.
Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with each other to share resources, strategies and successes, and to support each other in becoming even more effective.
