Australia Post has commenced the rollout of solar, battery and LED lighting upgrades at 11 operational sites across Queensland, as part of its broader energy efficiency program and decarbonisation strategy.
Backed by a multi-million-dollar investment, the program is forecast to deliver carbon savings of more than 1,720 tonnes annually, the equivalent of taking approximately 665 passenger vehicles off the road each year.
With upgrades recently completed at Coorparoo and Logan City, work is now underway at the Mansfield site. A further eight facilities including Bundaberg, Darra, Helensvale, Mt Isa, Nerang, Noosaville and Rockhampton are also set to receive energy efficiency enhancements in the coming months.
Australia Post Chief Sustainability Officer, Richard Pittard said the upgrades reflect Australia Post’s commitment to delivering more sustainable services while supporting local industry.
“These energy upgrades are not only helping us reduce emissions but also build momentum as we target Net Zero by 2050.This investment also supports our local communities by engaging regional contractors and suppliers,” MrPittard said.
The upgrades form part of a growing suite of sustainability initiatives already underway in Queensland. These include the introduction of 605 Electric Delivery Vehicles (EDVs), as well as opening two modern facilities in Murarrie and the Gold Coast, developed with sustainability in mind.
