Saveful India Launch Matt Morna and Sanjeev Kapoor with Australian High Commissioner Phillip Green
Saveful, Australia’s social enterprise and food-tech platform, has marked a major milestone in its global expansion with an official India launch, unveiled at the Australian High Commission’s ‘Plates with Purpose’ event, held on the sidelines of AAHAR 2026 in New Delhi.
The India launch introduces Saveful’s technology to one of the world’s most dynamic food cultures, helping households and businesses save food and get more value from ingredients they already have. Already supporting thousands of households in Australia, the platform combines smart technology, behavioural insights and culinary inspiration to help people turn what’s in their fridge, freezer and pantry into delicious meals – while ensuring quality surplus food goes further through communities.
One third of all food produced is lost or wasted – around 1.3 billion tonnes of food – costing the global economy close to $940billon each year, with 61% of all global food loss happening in homes.*
Hosted by Australia’s High Commissioner to India and Bhutan, Mr Philip Green, the event brought together leaders from government, food, hospitality, academia and social?impact sectors. The evening featured a special conversation between Chef Matt Moran, Saveful Ambassador and Partner, and Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, exploring how chefs, technology and governments can work together to build more sustainable global food systems.
High Commissioner Green said Australia and India share a strong commitment to building resilient, sustainable food systems. “Australia is a world leader in clean, green and sustainable produce and we share India’s vision for resilient food systems. Through Saveful, we see the powerful intersection of innovation and culinary expertise, delivering real-world impact for households in both Australia and India.”
Saveful’s expansion into India has been developed in collaboration with Centurion University of Technology and Management, India’s largest skills training university, known for sustainability?led innovation and community impact.
Saveful Co?Founder and CEO Kim McDonnell said the India launch marks a significant step in making smarter food systems accessible to everyone. “Food is too valuable to be overlooked. Around the world, households and businesses are looking for smarter ways to manage food, save money and make the most of what they already have. Saveful is designed to make that easy.”
Chef Matt Moran said chefs play a vital role in reconnecting people with the value of ingredients.
“Great cooking has always been about respecting ingredients. Saveful helps people rediscover that mindset – turning everyday ingredients into something special.”
Chef Sanjeev Kapoor added that Indian food culture naturally reflects many of the ideas behind the initiative. “Indian kitchens have always been incredibly creative and resourceful. Cooking with what you have, adapting ingredients and making the most of food are traditions that have long been part of our food culture.”
The rollout in India will begin through partnerships with universities, chefs and community organisations, with plans to work alongside brands retailers and food?service operators to help consumers get more value from the food they buy.
