Launching the 2019 Banksia Sustainability Awards

Submissions for the Banksia Foundation’s 2019 Banksia Sustainability Awards are now open.

From their conception 31 years ago, the Banksia Sustainability Awards have become the most prestigious and longest-running sustainability awards in Australia, inspiring excellence across all sectors of sustainability.

The Banksia Sustainability Awards bring together and celebrate the most innovative, effective and outstanding people contributing to improving Australia’s sustainability.

The Awards recognise individuals, communities, businesses and government for their innovation and excellence in environmental and social stewardship.

In 2018, the Banksia Foundation restructured the Awards to align with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These 17 global goals aim to unite world businesses, governments and citizens to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and protect the planet.

Last year’s entries addressed 12 of the 17 SDGs, cementing our commitment for the Banksia Awards to become a barometer of Australia’s SDG progress.

Banksia will continue its SDG focus throughout this year’s process.

The categories this year are Small Business, Medium Business, Large Business, NFP/NGO, Government, Academia/Research, Indigenous, Community, and the Minister’s Award for the Environment.

The Minister’s Award will focus on Australians who work to protect and care for our unique and natural environment.

The Award recognises innovative projects with national significance that will inspire others to take action.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that people enjoy peace and prosperity.
