The Malaysia Education Empowerment Organisation (MEEO) has officially appointed Prof. Dr. Billy Tang Chee Seng, FRSA as Head of Food Security and Inclusivity, while he also assumes the role of Dean of the Faculty of Sustainability, Food Security and ESG at Wilmington Metropolitan University (Malaysia Chapter).

This dual leadership role comes at a crucial time when Malaysia’s R&D ecosystem faces what experts call the “publication trap”—a culture of publishing papers without translating research into real-world innovation.

Prof. Dr. Tang’s track record with PwD Smart FarmAbility—pioneering Eco-HOPE Box Terrariums, Soil-U-tion Aquaponics Farms, and inclusive protein innovations—proves that research can move beyond journals to generate tangible solutions, social impact, and inclusive entrepreneurship.

“Our universities must evolve beyond the ‘publish or perish’ mindset. Research should not end with journal papers, but translate into innovations that feed families, heal our environment, and empower communities. In my new role, I am committed to embedding sustainability, food security, and inclusivity into education so that every discovery has a pathway to impact. Together, we can shift Malaysia’s R&D culture from producing citations to producing solutions for humanity and the planet.” — Prof. Dr. Billy Tang, FRSA

Through his new positions, Prof. Dr. Tang will embed ESG, sustainability, and inclusivity into academic frameworks, empowering universities to shift from “publish or perish” to “innovate and impact.”

This transformation signals a new era where education not only advances knowledge but also delivers prosperity, food security, and planetary health for Malaysia and beyond.
