Vast Solar expands team to power growth

Vast Solar is delighted to announce the appointment of three industry leaders to further strengthen its team: Kurt Drewes has become Vast Solar’s Chief Technology Officer; Lachlan Roberts has been recruited as Head of Construction; and Simon Woods joins as Head of Transactions after six years with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.

The appointments will support Vast Solar’s vision to generate clean, reliable and low-cost power using world-leading Australia-made solar thermal technology.

Craig Wood, CEO of Vast Solar said: “The board and I are extremely pleased to announce these three senior appointments. Each of them brings to Vast Solar a wealth of experience and knowledge in their respective roles. Including them in our team will ensure the success of our cornerstone project in Mount Isa, Queensland, the 50MW North West Queensland Hybrid Power Project.

“We’re on a sharp growth trajectory, making investments in our projects and our team to deliver in Mount Isa and on more and bigger projects in the future.

“I’m looking forward to working with Kurt, Lachlan and Simon.”

Kurt Drewes, Chief Technology Officer: Kurt has been with Vast Solar since 2017, playing a key role in the success of Vast Solar’s pilot project at Jemalong, New South Wales. As one of the world’s leading experts in solar thermal technology, Kurt will be responsible for the overall technical development of Vast Solar, ongoing research, commissioning and quality control, operations and maintenance, external technical relationships and delivery of special projects.

Lachlan Roberts, Head of Construction: Lachlan has offshore and onshore experience working in mining, gas and oil projects in Australia and internationally. His most recent role as General Manager for Monadelphous’ Electrical & Instrumentation and Heavy Lift businesses saw him leading a team of more than 500 people executing projects throughout Australia for leading international resources companies.

Simon Woods, Head of Transactions: with over 20 years transactional experience, being a Chartered Financial Analyst and a solicitor in both Queensland and England and Wales, Simon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in managing transactions. His most recent role was with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency where he was Investment Director, leading investments across a broad range of renewable energy and enabling technologies and projects.
