Intrepid Travels’ non-profit distributes annual grants for special projects, funded by Intrepid Travellers and Interrail

The Intrepid Foundation, Intrepid Travel’s non-profit, has granted 13 not-for-profit recipients a combined $643,596 AUD as part of its annual Impact Grants program.
The Intrepid Foundation’s annual grant program invites all Intrepid Foundation partners across more than 40 countries to pitch project ideas that deepen community impact. Funds for the program are raised through the generous donations of Intrepid travellers, who opt-in to donate 1% of their trip cost at the time of booking, which is matched by Intrepid Travel.
In 2026, over 7,000 travellers made donations, allowing the Intrepid Foundation to award 13 of its local partners grants ranging between $30,000 and $50,000 AUD for specific projects that support conservation, wildlife and animal welfare, education and equality and community-building projects.
The 2026 grants will support the establishment of a new cultural heritage and education centre in Northern Tanzania; a women’s-led agricultural cooperative working across Türkiye; the development of marine protection zones in the Andaman Sea, among ten other projects that support communities and environments around the globe.
In partnership with Interrail, one €30,000 grant was dedicated to a partner located within the Interrail rail network. The chosen recipient was Casa Caridad for their Espai DONA program, which provides resources and a safe space to women experiencing homelessness in Valencia.
One grant was also voted for directly by travellers. The ‘Travellers’ Choice’ was awarded to Cambodia Rural Students Trust for its Project B initiative, which seeks to build permanent bicycle repairs stations across Siem Reap, ensuring the mobility of students who must cycle to get to school. A record 2,000 customers had their say, while Intrepid team votes helped determine the other eleven winners.

General Manager of The Intrepid Foundation, Biheng Zhang, said: “The annual Intrepid Foundation Impact Grants allow us to provide targeted, meaningful support for projects important to our Foundation partners’ standard fundraising. Thank you to our generous Intrepid travellers, over 7,000 of whom contributed this amazing result along with our friends at Interrail. We are so pleased to be able to support so many vital projects and further showcase the positive impact travel can have on our communities.”
